Brookline pharmacy closed by board

Brookline pharmacy closed by board

The Massachusetts pharmacy board inspects and finds some issues, none of which claim any harm ever came to any patient or customer in any way or fashion. Within a week every issue is resolved. Normally, business continues, not as usual but improved. That is the way it is typically, and rightfully done. Not in this case ... the punishment is so absurd and does not fit the non-crime.

Dear Respected Colleagues,

A small community pharmacy has been closed and Steven L. Grossman R.Ph has lost his license for what we feel are unjustified reasons. His service to this Brookline community has been an invaluable lifeline for doctors and patients. Steve Grossman’s specialized expertise and high professional standards have been his trademark. People consider Steve the most ethical and knowledgeable pharmacist they have ever known. He takes time to answer questions, give advice and give patients information they need. His is a practice of consummate care that has unfortunately become the exception as opposed to the rule. As physicians and medical professionals who work closely with Steve and his team, we are extremely alarmed by the recent course of action on behalf of this board.

Many of the doctors and nurse practitioners in this community, many having more than 30 years of experience practicing medicine, have had countless episodes of pharmacy errors involving the major pharmacy chains in the area, none of which to our knowledge have resulted in the termination of a store. During the same period, we have never experienced any errors in medication from Steve Grossman or his pharmacy.

While it is clear that changes needed to be made in his operation, many, if not all, have been rectified. The precipitous and destructive decision of the Pharmacy Board raises grave concerns for all health care professionals in Massachusetts.

We in this medical community are devastated by this unfortunate circumstance. We appeal to you, the commission members, to reevaluate your decision to shut down this incredibly talented, loyal and compassionate pharmacist. He has provided our community by his services with great distinction for many years. He should be allowed to continue his distinguished professional service to all of his constituents at the1180 Beacon St. Medical Community and the people of Brookline.

We appeal to your sense of fair play and respectfully request reinstatement of Steve Grossman’s license and reopening of J.E. Pierce Apothecary.

Justice

Just as the pharmacy board must ensure that pharmacies are running appropriately, it is up to us to make sure that the board acts justly and fairly.
